Just outside of Christchurch can be found the
village and tithing of Buriton. To be exact it is about a 1½ miles
from Christchurch and 7 miles south of Ringwood and stands near to
the River Avon. Opposite the church of St Luke is Burton Green
The living is to be constituted a vicarage, held by the Rev. Thomas Henry Bush, M.A., of St. John's
College, Cambridge.
In connection with the church there is a National school, supported by voluntary contributions. The village
is pleasantly situated, encircling a green. Burton Hall which was
once the residence of Mrs. Vincent Wing; Whitehays, of Chas. G. Richardson,
esq. Sir George Gervis, bart., was lord of the manor and principal landowner.
Adjoining Burton is Staple Cross .
