Chalbury
Chalbury has a very unusual white church that sits on the summit of a hill 330ft high between Horton and Wimborne it is a beautiful place and there are some spectacular views of the lovely Dorset farmland, Ringwood Church and the Solent with the needles standing proud off the western tip of the Isle of Wight. Up until the 1950s a telegraph cottage was here and was a part of a semaphore chain that stood from  Plymouth to Whitehall in London.

There is also a pear shaped Iron Age hill fort atop a very steep Jordan Hill which overlooks Weymouth Bay The defences were started during the 5th century BC and over 70 hut circles have been discovered in the middle with numerous storage pits. It is thought that the fort was probably built as a resistance to the Roman advance in the area, but all this was to no avail.

The white walled church on the hillside  was built during the 13th century and is a rather  squat and simple type of building that has a small square tower.Inside there can be found some high sided family box pews that have  doors.
