Now know as Crichel Down. Little Crichel here was joined with Moor Crichel when the Parsonage was pulled down and in the 14 century the earliest family here were Cifrewast, and the manor was owned by the Uvedales the Sheriffs of Dorset. It was passed to the Sturt family in the 16th century through marriage and there is a Mansion in 400 acres of Parkland complete with a lake.

The Church is dedicated to St Mary and has replaced an older building. It was rebuilt in the 19th century in an Elaborate Italian style. There is an altar tomb dated 1581 for the Cifrewast family.

More Crichel sits between the River Gussage and the River Tarrant and it was during WWII tht Lt Cmdr George Marten and his wife Mary struck a heavy blow for freedom in a long drawn out case. They were rich landowners and they wanted to free agricultural land that had been commandeered for use an an airfield and they took their fight to Westminster bringing down a Minister of Agriculture in the process, and now where Tarrant Rushton airfield was the plough reigns supreme.
