Radipole
One and a half miles from Weymouth on the River Wey is Radipole and the Weymouth Borough and Melcombe Regis extended its borders to include parts of Dorchester Road as far as Lodmoor Hill in 1895. Then in 1933 the Borough boundaries were altered again and this time took in the entire Radipole parish.  Radipole lake lies to the south of the village and this used to be a lot larger than it is today and until 1872 it was tidal. Today it is a bird sanctuary and on the edge of the lake thre used to be a sulphur spa that was run by the Gill family.

The parish church is dedicated to St Ann and is said to be the oldest building in the area. The Romans used to land small ships here where the present church is but what used to be a lovely village has been buried by the town of Weymouth.

Part of the ancient parish of Radipole use to include Southill  and also included part of the Dorchester Road down to Greenhill and it was here that it met with the parish boundary and Preston. The church of St John's at the end of the esplanade was consecrated in 1854 and this was said to be the New Radipole church.
