Eight miles southwest of Poole and 17 miles southeast of Dorchester is the town of Wareham which has been occupied since before the Romans came to the area and the main part of the town is on rising ground between the River Piddle and River Frome near to where they empty into Poole Harbour

The town has three parishes, Holy Trinity, Lady St Mary and St Martin's, Holy Trinity and St Martin's have been the final resting place for Anglo Saxon kings and Hutchins who was the author of The History of Dorset is also buried here,

In 1762 a disastrous fire hit the town and a lot of church register were lost, the main employer here was brick making and clay extraction.
