Eastleighs first school opened on 24 January 1870 by the Bishop of Winchester 
Revd Dr Samuel Wilberforce who was the son of the slave emancipator. This view is between
1898 and 1905
The Crescent School was renamed in 1936 because the council had changed the 
road name to  Twyford Road . The school closed after 108 years on 19 January 1978

An "ultra-modern" school was built in 1932
in Shakespeare Road and is still being used as an infants school today,
with a new building for Juniors constructed in St Catherine's Road
