Eldon

One sunny day I noticed a sign at Kings Somborne pointing to Eldon and being the inquisitive type I decided to investigate. Imagine my surprise to find a lovely farmhouse with a church of all things in its front garden!

Eldon is said to be the smallest parish in the county and can only be accesses by single track winding country roads so a lot of care must be taken. The springtime is one of the nicest times to go here with the banks alongside the road covered in Primroses and bluebells.

To all purposes it seems that I had entered another world, a world of peace and tranquillity, the only sounds being the lowing of cattle and the singing of the birds, with maybe a slight rustling of the leaves in the wind. This to me was heaven after leaving the rat race of the town where I live to end up in such a pretty little place which seems miles from anywhere.

Not only is Eldon been voted as the smallest parish in the county some people say it also had the smallest church, I say had as it is a redundant church though an occassional service is held here. The farmhouse which stands behind the church is of 15th century and is a pretty building.

Nearby there are some more modern dwellings and there is also a stud farm here as well.
