| Hawley |
| The parish of Hawley sits in the north east corner of
the county stretching from Blackwater through part of Minley to Cove and
joins the boundary of Fleet at Norris Bridge which spans the Basingstoke
Canal. In the centre of the village is Minley Manor which was owned by the Currie family until near the end of the 1930s, they were great benefactors to the parish and it is them that gave the ground for the cricket pavilion. In 1881 an orphanage was founded under the aegis of the Clewer Sisters. The orphanage closed and was demolished but the Chapel remained to serve as a daughter-church to the Parish of Hawley, but there were new developments taking place in Hawley on the other side of town and the powers that be decreed the Chapel was in the wrong place so it was put up for sale. The Vicar of Hawley however decided that the altar and reredos should go St Andrews Church Clewer Windsor. |
