Hunton
Dateline 1875

HUNTON  is a parochial chapelry of Crawley, about 3 miles west from Micheldever station, in the Northern division of the county, union, petty sessional division and county court district of Winchester, hundred of Buddlesgate, rural deanery, archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester.  The church of St. James is a small structure, repaired in 1865 at a cost of £700: it consists of nave only, with a small tower containing 1 bell.

The register dates from the year 1564. The living is annexed to the benefice of Crawley, the tithes having been commuted into rent charge, in value £190, in the patronage of Queen's College, Oxford, and held by the Ven. Philip Jacob, M.A., of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, archdeacon and canon of Winchester. Robert Fitter, esq., is the owner and occupier of the whole of the parish. 

Hunton Farmhouse and House are both 18th century

The population in 1871 was 92.

The property named in the above record is the manor of Hunton (in
Crawley), Hampshire, which formed part of the inheritance of Margaret
de Monthermer, wife of Sir John de Montagu. Sir John de Montagu died
seised of this property in right of his wife in 1389
