| Lovedean |
| Lovedean was granted to Thomas Loveden by one of his
relatives in the 16th century, there is no mansion, church or school
here just a strip of land with a couple of dwellings upon it. Up until
WWI it had not changed and then people came in from nearby tosns and
bought small plots of land whre they started to build wooden chalets as
holiday homes. It was in th 30s tht mains water was laid followed by electricity and a much improved form of sanitation and retired people looking for some peace and quiet to spend the last years of their lives decided to move in. And when war broke out in 1939 people came here for shelter from the bombing on Portsmouth and proper brick houses started to be build. Housing estates started to sprout up around the 1960s and 70s. Today there is a village hall which is the practice venue for the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra. |
