| Lying four miles to the West of Andover
Monxton is a delightful little village that stands on the Pillhill Brook
which meets up with the River Anton at Upper Clatford. And fine view be
had from a track north of the village and also views across the water
meadows. Signs of Roman times have been found including roof tiles and coins when field walking. Monxton Manor is a red brick structure that has a brick porch in the centre and dated in the 18th century, and Bec House was formerly the Rectory is also red brick and is 19th century. There are also two 18th century cottages which was the School House and School Cottage. Hutchens Cottages are two dwellings that was once an 18th century farmhouse which stands at right angles to the road, and Monxton Mill which is 18th and 19th century has also been converted to a private dwelling. The public house is the 19th century Black Swan. Adjacent to Cambridge cottage can be found the old village well with its wood frame, and the village pump is nearby. The parish church has a brass memorial to Richard Pore, who was related to an Elizabethan rector and at the beginning of the 18th century a rector of the village was so intrigued by mathematics he took no notice of anything else around nim and it is said he never left his house even to carry out his church duties, did not shave and was said to be "letting his beard grow till he was a spectacle."
