Mottisfont
Four miles outside of Romsey on the Kings Somborne road and off to the left is the Parish of Mottisfont which sits in a delightful position on the banks of the River Test immediately opposite Michelmersh. The village of Mottisfont has a lot of attractive houses the most famous of which is Mottisfont Abbey, which was founded in 1201 for Augustinian canons, the abbey was acquired by Lord Sandys at the dissolution of the monateries and the buildings were changed into a Tudor residence.

Georgian alterations made the abbey almost unrecognisable and completed the building to a house.

Both Mottisfont and Dunbridge are famed for their trout fishing in the Test.

The nearby village of Brook there is a stream called the Farburn which is said had a mill owned by the Abbess of St Mary at Winchester and is believed to be the oldest artificial reservoir in England and the 25ft high dam that stretched halfway across the valley can still be seen. A part of the lake has been restored in recent years and restocked with fish.
