New Milton

The old village centre   The old George Inn

The village centre of Old Milton village can still be seen but hardly any of the old buildings remain. But the red bricked George Inn built in 1905, still stands beside the green, along with the parish church, Myrtle Cottage and a small thatched cottage.

But  in the 19th century the railway arrived! And from then on the population grew and a new shopping centre had to be built  outside the old village, and also a post office. Then a new station which is dated AD1886 was built and this prefix led to the name of New Milton, and then in 1979 it was classified as a town.

A large water tower that was built around 1900 looms above the town and though it seems an ugly monstrosity it makes the post war houses and buildings in the town seem attractive. Looking like a huge tower to a castle it is built of red brick.
