Newton Valence
Newton Valence can be found between East Tisted and Selborne and 5½ miles to the south of Alton and in the Domesday Book it is recorded as Newentone, while the name derives from Aylmerde Valence, who was given it as a grant of land.

Next to a rather impressive Manor House is the old church of St Mary built in the Early English style and much of the 13th century work can be see as well as a huge 700 year old font.

In the churchyard is the all too familiar yew tree and beside it is the grave of Colonel Phayve who was one of the signatories on the death warrant of King Charlies I.
