Fullton mentioned in the staff members.
ADA
Well, dear Ada you're a darling
I like you more each day
You have such a pretty face and such a gentle way.
I will never forget you as I travel the world round
I will not forget those happy times
when you used to rub me down.
But I don't mean on the washboard
I mean upon my chest
When I laid back on the pillow
and of course you did the rest.
As I gazed into your blue eyes
I thought you were a dear
And as for you hurting me at all
I never used to fear.
You seemed to rub so softly,
you're as gentle as a lamb
I could let you rub me all day long
I wouldn't care a damn.
I love to see your smiling face
it would drive away all pain
And a loving kiss you would stop to give
Then start rubbing away again.
Then after you were finished you
did up my shirt and flannel
And after that kissed me goodnight
And then blew out the candle.
Then I would lay me down to rest
and wipe away a tear.
Then shut my eyes and go to sleep
And dream of you, my dear.
But Ada how I love you, don't think that I am a fraud
But next time there's rubbing to be done
we will try the washing board.
And if that does not suit my dear
and I feel a little sick
We 'll do as they did in the olden days
And try the Blooming brick.
Now if with me in this you'll agree
When you have finished reading this
In case we do not meet again
just give me a little kiss. |
| This one is probably from the same author and
may relate to his going to the Somme.
JUST BEFORE THE BATTLE MOTHER.
Poor Mother she's working away night and day.
She seems always to be on the hop.
She's hopping around like a flea in a bottle.
I don't think she will ever stop.
She gets in a flurry, always in a hurry.
You would think she has no time to spare.
And to see her still, it's a rare thing you will
For dodging about here and there.
She's one minute up the town
Walks the street up and down.
She's all over the place in a tick
And if the kids they do cheek her
And the right way don't treat her
She lands them a horrible kick.
She says 'out of this you young scamp
And get away to your camp
,And rest yourselves there for awhile
For if you don't you young devil
I'll knock you down level
And I'll take the skin off your dial.'
She might change when she gets older
just as I told yer.
She'll sit down and read of the War.
Well, I've said enough, she might think it's rough
So I don't think I'll say any more.
