| Over Wallop | ||
Over Wallop is close to the Hampshire border with
Wiltshire and is quite an attractive little village that has a restored
church, which had managed to keep hold of some of its mediaeval
features. The village has also been referred to as Upper Wallop and
occasionally Superior Wallop. This is probably through Weald Hop which
was Old English for valley of the stream.
Hugh de Port held two estates in the manor of Over Wallop, the first estate he was holding as half a manor, and before 1066 it was held by Edward the Confessor and Godrig held it for him in freehold.
