Pamber Heath
In the north of the County and close to the border with Berkshire lies Pamber Heath which is divided up with Pamber End and Pamber Green. The parish church is dedicated to St Luke and there is a post office, village hall , general store and  of course the village pub. The parish, which goes back to the time of the Norman Conquest, was originally called Pambeare and the Heath was added much later.Henry de Port founded a priory here during the 12th century and there are still remains to be seen today.

There have been many changes in the village over the centuries and some older houses can be found as well as some of the old families who have been here for generations. The old post office used to be a bakery and to the webmasters delight it is said to have made the best Lardy cake in the area. What's a lardy cake I hear you ask? Well, Lardy cake comes from Wiltshire, in the south west region of the UK, but there are also similar recipes from other regions. Fourses cake  in Sussex, Lardy Johns in Sussex and I am sure there are many more, but the Lardy cake seems to be the most well known. It is a 'comfort food' and not meant to be something eaten every day - the ingredient that makes it so is the lard. Recipe.
