RECIPIENT OF THE CROIX DE GUERRE
Joseph Robert Brown was born 11 Aug 1885 in Percy Villas, Church Lane, Willesden, Middx to Frank Brown and Mary Ann (nee Hamilton, formerly Mayle).  Joseph married Elizabeth Jane Winifred Dowse on 23 Nov 1909 at Bishopstoke, the certificate says Southampton.  They had my Grandad on 30 May 1910 at Bishopstoke and 2 more sons there before the war began when he signed up on 24 Dec 1914 and was in the Hants Regiment for 5 years, becoming a sergeant.  (There were 3 more sons and finally a daughter, but that was after the war, so a different story.)
If anyone has any information on Joseph Robert Brown please contact mayndave@lanchbury.id.au

This is a hard backed picture taken by Symonds and Co, Artists and photographers of 39 High Street, Portsmouth. Could it be preparations for the mayors garden party as Harry Kimber was mayor of Portsmouth in 1898.Or was it preparation for something during the preceding year the Diamond Jubilee year.

Here are some St John's Ambulance volunteer nurses and my grandmother (Winifred Jenkins Kimber) is bottom right. She and some others seem to have a medal? round their necks. My mother tells me she had a good friend called Dolly Marvin who might have been in the picture too. WJK went to Ireland during the war

circa 1912 may be a wedding
