RAMSDALE (or RAMSDELL) is an ecclesiastical parish, formed in 1869 from the civil parishes of Monk Sherborne, Tadley, and Wootton St. Lawrence, 5 miles north-west from Basingstoke, in the Northern division of the county, petty sessional division, hundred, union, and county court district of Basingstoke, and rural deanery of Basingstoke north-eastern division, archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester.
Christ Church, built in 1869, is in the Lancet style, faced with flint with stone dressings, and consists of chancel and nave, with small bell turret and 1 bell: the cost of erection was about £1,000, which was raised by subscription. The register dates from the year 1869. There is a school, which has accommodation for 50 children, and is supported by the vicar. The Independents have a chapel here. The population in 1871 was 555. |
