Vernham Dean
Vernham Dean lies in the north of the county and the parish has a village of ALMOST the same name and several tiny hamlets in the vicinity. The difference being is the parish is Vernhams Dean and the village is Vernham Dean. But before this it ws Ferneham which means the village of meadow among the ferns.

There are four points on Hampshire's border where three counties meet and this is one of them which on the northeast side of the parish not far from Rockmoor Pond. This where the village once collected its daily water supplies.

Of special interest is Vernham Manor that dates from the 16th century and is a brick built with a timber framed core.

At Littledown is a very old flint and brick built Inn that has a thatched roof, this is The Boot, so called as it was once a shoemakers shop as well as a pub and inside they are proud to show a collection of about 500 boots that are made from practically everything you could imagine and have been sent from all over the world, and passed from one landlord to the next.

Macey's Cottage stands near to the church and when viewed from one side its Gothic windows make it look ike a church, and when viewed from the other it is perfectly normal, when the church was destroyed in 1851 by fire the services were held here in the cottage. In 1869 a Primitive Methodist chapel was built.

The George

There are two Victorian cast iron drinking fountains in the village, both being identical and still workable, one is in the churchyard while the second is opposite the George Inn.

The one pictured right is the one at the entrance to the church, and yes it still works!
